What we've worked out.

The same questions come up in every T1 and T2 owner's first few months — this page is where the answers live once the community has settled on one. Where we haven't, we say so plainly rather than guess.

Getting to know it

Air is only coming out of one vent — the side vents seem dead.answered

Nearly always the vent itself, closed. On the console, press the seat-with-a-fan icon to open the air-flow menu and choose where it goes — the default routes to the feet, which reads as "broken" the first time. On the physical vent, the small lever or dial closes it fully in one position; roll it back open by hand.

All trims

Can a passenger control the volume without reaching across?answered

Yes — swipe down from the top of the infotainment screen and a quick-controls panel drops down, including volume. Most owners find this weeks after delivery; it isn't covered at handover.

All trims

Is there a faster way back to the home screen or to a saved seat position than digging through menus?answered

The steering wheel has a shortcut button (often mapped to * or a dedicated key) that jumps straight to the home screen. Seat memory is set and recalled from the seat menu — once saved, it applies automatically per detected key.

All trims

What do the extra buttons and long-presses on the remote key actually do?answered

Holding the unlock button opens all the windows; holding lock closes them. Pressing lock then immediately holding the engine start button for 5–7 seconds triggers a remote start — useful for pre-cooling on a hot day. A hidden micro-key lives inside the main fob for manual entry if the battery ever dies.

All trims

Does the sun visor actually extend, or does the low sun always get through the gap?answered

On the T2 the visor slides back along its arm for extra coverage — it isn't obvious from the fixed-looking mount. Worth finding before a long drive west into the afternoon sun.

T2

The fuel flap won't open on the plug-in hybrid.answered

It opens from a button on the dash, left of the steering wheel below the vent — not a fuel-door release near the seat as on a normal car. On the i-DM specifically it's used rarely enough (short trips run mostly on battery) that it can feel stiff or unfamiliar the first few times; press the flap itself firmly after triggering the button.

i-DM (PHEV)

Why does the display suddenly show a wheel-close-up when turning at low speed?answered

That's a genuine feature, not a glitch — below roughly 15 km/h while turning, the display shows the near-side rear wheel so you can judge clearance against kerbs. It needs the steering-angle overlay enabled once from the on-screen settings icon; after that it triggers automatically.

All trims

Can the reverse warning chime be turned off or turned down?answered

No — it's a legally mandated pedestrian-safety feature on hybrid/quiet-running variants especially, and can't be disabled by design. The indicator-click volume, separately, can be lowered in Settings → Instrument/Sound.

Driving feel

There's a noticeable delay pulling away from a stop — is that normal?answered

It's a known characteristic of the dual-clutch transmission at low speed, not a fault, and it eases with familiarity. Three things help: drive in Eco rather than Normal (counter-intuitively smoother off the line), keep Auto Hold engaged and apply a touch of throttle pressure a half-second before you actually need to move, and disable "auto engine stop-start" if it's active, since that adds its own restart delay on top. Most owners report it becomes a non-issue after a few thousand kilometres of habit.

All DCT trims

How does Auto Hold actually behave — will the car roll or lurch if I open the door?answered

With Auto Hold engaged, opening the door with the engine running automatically applies the handbrake — the car won't creep while you're out at the boot. It needs firmer-than-usual brake pressure to arm at a standstill; a light touch sometimes doesn't trigger it, which reads as "not working." Some owners prefer to shift to Neutral at long stops instead, on the reasoning that it reduces load on the transmission versus holding in Drive.

All trims

Should the car be shifted to Neutral before Park, or is switching off from Drive fine?open

Genuinely split opinion in the community, and neither camp has an official answer from the manual to point to. One school shifts to Neutral first to avoid resting the car's weight on the parking pawl; the other switches off directly from Drive and reports no issues over many thousands of kilometres, noting the car auto-engages Park behaviour on shutdown regardless. Until Jetour publishes a specific recommendation, treat this as owner preference rather than settled practice.

All trims

Which drive mode gives the best real-world fuel consumption?answered

Normal or Eco for daily commuting; Sport measurably increases consumption but noticeably improves throttle response if the low-speed hesitation bothers you. There's no consistent report of a large economy penalty from Sport in stop-start traffic specifically — the difference shows up more on the open road.

Infotainment & connectivity

Android Auto / CarPlay keeps disconnecting, especially at toll booths.answered

This is widely reported and matches a known pattern on wireless Android Auto/CarPlay generally — high-intensity RF near toll infrastructure and lift-style spaces interferes with the Bluetooth/WiFi handshake. A wired connection is more stable than wireless for this specific symptom. On the phone side, checking your device's Bluetooth/WiFi power-saving and background-app settings has resolved it for some owners; there also may be a car-side software update addressing disconnects generally, ask at your next service.

All trims

Should Android Auto / CarPlay be connected over WiFi or Bluetooth?answered

Bluetooth-only is the safer default. Connecting over the car's WiFi for wireless CarPlay/Android Auto can make some phones treat the car as their primary data route, which then blocks WhatsApp/data on the phone until it's manually disconnected — this is phone-setting-dependent, not universal, but Bluetooth avoids the problem entirely.

All trims

My phone gets uncomfortably hot running navigation and music, even in my pocket.answered

Confirmed common, especially on wireless Android Auto/CarPlay: the phone is doing sustained high-load processing (live maps, streaming audio, wireless casting) with no airflow, and a pocket or the factory wireless charging pad both trap heat further. A wired USB connection generates noticeably less heat than wireless casting, is faster to charge, and is the most consistent fix reported. Keeping the phone out of direct sun and closing unused background apps also helps.

All trims

The dashboard clock is a few minutes off, or doesn't update automatically.open

A minor, widely-reported quirk with the auto time-sync feature drifting or lagging by a few minutes. If it bothers you, turning auto-sync off and setting the time manually is the reliable workaround; there's no confirmed fix for the sync itself yet.

All trims

FM radio reception and sound quality seem weak compared to other cars.open

Reported by multiple owners with no confirmed fix — a streaming app over data (Spotify, a radio app) is the common workaround rather than relying on FM tuning.

All trims

Warranty & aftermarket

Which aftermarket accessories genuinely risk the warranty, and which don't?answered

The consistent line from owners who've had this confirmed directly with Jetour SA's warranty department: anything touching the engine, gearbox, electrical system or braking system carries real risk — that includes performance chips/throttle controllers, speaker/amp upgrades that involve wiring into the loom, and aftermarket brake components. Purely cosmetic, bolt-on or adhesive exterior accessories — wind deflectors, mud flaps, wheel covers, mirror covers, spoilers, roof racks — are consistently reported as not affecting warranty. When in doubt on a specific part, ask the warranty department directly and keep the answer in writing rather than relying on what a fitment shop says.

All trims

Do brake caliper covers (the cosmetic clip-on kind, not a repaint) affect warranty?open

Genuinely contested. Jetour SA's warranty department has told owners that a brake-system claim could be declined if calipers show any aftermarket alteration, full stop — while several owners who fitted clip-on covers (no adhesive, no paint, removable) argue that's a different risk category to actually painting or modifying the caliper. No resolution either way has been confirmed in writing. If you want zero risk, leave calipers stock; if you fit covers, understand the warranty department's stated position is that it may still be treated as an alteration.

All trims

Do plug-and-play performance chips (throttle controllers) actually help, and are they safe?answered

Owners who've fitted them report a genuine, noticeable difference in power and throttle response, with mixed views on whether the top-tier chip variant is worth the extra cost over the mid-tier one. They're explicitly flagged by Jetour SA as a warranty risk on the engine/electrical system — several owners remove the chip before any service or warranty visit as standard practice. Fitment difficulty varies by chip brand due to sensor location.

Tyres, pressure & towing

The low tyre pressure light keeps coming on even after I've checked the pressure.answered

Two independent, very common causes. First: cold weather genuinely drops tyre pressure by roughly 0.1–0.2 bar overnight, which is enough to trip the warning if you're running near the minimum — most owners settle around 2.4–2.6 bar as a working range rather than the exact door-panel figure, and top up slightly higher in winter. Second: filling-station gauges are frequently inaccurate, including digital ones — a dedicated tyre gauge removes that variable. If pressure is genuinely correct and the light persists, the sensor may need recalibrating at the dealer.

All trims

Where is the correct tyre pressure spec if it isn't on the driver's door as usual?answered

Check the passenger-side door frame instead of the driver's side — several owners have found it placed there rather than the more common location.

All trims

The factory tow-hitch electrics don't seem to work with a standard SA trailer or caravan plug.answered

The vehicle ships with a 13-pin (EU-spec) connector, and SA trailers overwhelmingly use 7-pin. A cheap physical 13-to-7 adaptor plug is reported not to work reliably — the dealer can swap the vehicle-side connector to a proper 7-pin for no charge, which is the confirmed fix. Test the full circuit (indicators, brake lights) before a real trip, not just that it clicks in.

T1 & T2

The stock tyre size is expensive and hard to find — can a different size be fitted?answered

Owners with tyre-industry experience in the group advise staying within roughly 10mm of overall diameter change on tar-focused use, up to 20mm if the vehicle is used more off-road — larger changes risk speedometer/odometer inaccuracy and can affect the driver-assist systems that rely on wheel-speed sensing. All-terrain options in the stock or a close-fit size are limited in SA but do exist; going up a size to find more AT choice is a documented workaround, done deliberately and with the risk understood, not a default recommendation.

Care & detailing

Does matte paint need different care from normal paint, and can scratches be fixed the same way?answered

Yes on both counts. Matte finishes need a pH-neutral shampoo and dedicated matte-safe products — ordinary polish or wax will leave a glossy patch. Scratches are a bigger problem on matte: standard touch-up polish can't restore the matte texture once it's buffed, and the practical fix reported is a full respray or wrap of the affected panel, not a spot repair. A paint-protection film is the preventative measure owners with matte cars increasingly reach for.

Matte-finish trims

There's wind noise at highway speed — where does it come from and can it be fixed?open

Reported inconsistently — some owners hear nothing at all with the same accessories fitted as others who hear it clearly, which suggests some variance between individual vehicles rather than one single cause. Confirmed contributing factors: a roof rack or roof-mounted lights measurably add wind noise above roughly 100–120 km/h; a front wind deflector reduces engine-bay noise but some owners find it adds its own noise at speed; one owner had it resolved at the dealer by adjusting the door mirrors. If it's bothering you, start with the mirrors and roof accessories before assuming it's a sealing fault.

T2 especially

What's a good product for the exterior black plastic trim, and is anything unsafe to use?answered

A dedicated plastic/trim dressing (silicone-based sprays and gel-type products both reported working) restores the black finish well. Caution: several of these products are slippery underfoot — avoid using them on side steps or anywhere you'll be stepping.

Sourcing accessories

Temu or AliExpress for accessories — any practical difference for SA delivery?answered

Both are widely used in the community for accessories not yet stocked locally, with generally good fitment reports for mud flaps, wind deflectors, USB lighting, insect-screen kits and similar bolt-on parts. The one consistent piece of advice: on AliExpress, specifically choose listings that ship via "AliExpress Shipping" rather than China Post or EMS — the former uses courier partners similar to Temu's and arrives in a reasonable window, while China Post routing through the SA Post Office can take one to four months.

All trims

Which accessories are realistic to fit yourself, and which really need a professional?answered

Reported as straightforward DIY: mud flaps (uses existing screw holes, no drilling), wind deflectors (double-sided tape, use a level), insect/grille protectors (clip-fit with trim tape), a spare-wheel cover (roughly half an hour with basic tools). Reported as worth paying for fitment: number-plate holder swaps (needs old rivets drilled out), anything involving the sound system or wiring, and roof racks if you're not confident lifting and aligning them solo without risking a scratch.

First service & milestones

The oil dipstick reads low soon after delivery — is that a problem?answered

Confirmed by the dealer network as expected, not a fault: new vehicles are filled with a run-in oil (0W20) to a level that can look low on the dipstick despite being correctly filled. Owners are advised not to top up before the first service unless the vehicle's own warning system prompts it — topping up unnecessarily has reportedly caused its own issues. If the dashboard doesn't warn you, the dipstick reading alone isn't a reliable signal at this stage.

All 2.0T trims

When should the first service actually be booked?answered

The dashboard warning light typically appears around 14,000–14,500 km as a prompt to book. Reported first-service bookings cluster around 15,000 km, which matches the warning window — treat the on-screen prompt as the trigger rather than a fixed calendar date.

All trims

The brakes make a squeaking or grinding sound right after a wash — normal?answered

A light squeak for the first few hundred metres after a wash is normal on virtually any car — water on the pads and disc, gone once they dry with use. A metal-on-metal sound that persists for many kilometres, or that you can feel through the pedal, is not normal and is worth booking in rather than waiting out.

The bigger picture

What is the actual official warranty and service plan on a T1 or T2?answered

The T-Series (T1/T2) specifically carries a 7-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, a 7-year/75,000 km service plan included in the retail price, and a 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty for the first owner. This is a genuinely better package than Jetour SA's other model lines (Dashing/X70 Plus run 5-year/150,000 km) — if you see the smaller figure quoted anywhere, including on Jetour's own general owners page, it's describing the other range, not the T-Series. The i-DM PHEV battery carries a separately reported 8-year/160,000 km warranty, sourced with slightly less certainty than the figures above.

T1 & T2 (T-Series) · source: Jetour SA dealer and press coverage (The Citizen, jetourboksburg.co.za and others), cross-checked Aug 2026

Is there a published Jetour SA policy on whether aftermarket accessories void the warranty?open

Not that we've been able to find. Jetour SA's published warranty language covers "factory defects in materials or workmanship" and requires dealer servicing, but doesn't spell out a specific aftermarket-accessories clause anywhere public. The community's working knowledge on this page (see Warranty & Aftermarket) comes from owners who've asked Jetour SA's warranty department directly and reported back what they were told — genuinely useful, but a verbal answer to one owner isn't the same as a written, binding policy. Get anything warranty-critical confirmed in writing for your own file before you rely on it.

T1 & T2

Are T1/T2 built locally in South Africa yet?answered

Not yet. Chery formally took over the former Nissan plant in Rosslyn, Gauteng in mid-2026, and T-Series local assembly is confirmed to begin in 2027 alongside a few other Chery-group models — targeting an initial ramp of around 15,000 units before scaling toward 50,000 a year. Every T1 and T2 on SA roads today is still imported.

What's coming next from Jetour for SA — is it worth waiting?open

Two models are publicly confirmed for South Africa: the T8, a larger 7-seat flagship SUV expected in 2027 with a 2.0T petrol AWD entry point and a plug-in hybrid variant sharing the T2 i-DM's drivetrain; and the G700, a body-on-frame off-roader with amphibious marketing claims, also broadly pointed at 2027 though its exact timing has been reported inconsistently. Neither replaces the T1/T2 — they sit above them in the range. A T2 facelift has been reported in some markets but nothing SA-specific has been confirmed as of this writing.

Is the official Jetour rewards/owners app worth registering for?open

The official app ("Jetour Motor Club SA" on the App Store) exists and registration is straightforward — your SA ID number doubles as your membership ID. Owner experience with it has been mixed: several report claims taking weeks to process and getting stuck, and at least one long-time user found it not worth the effort in its current state. Registering costs nothing, so there's little downside to signing up and seeing whether it's improved — just don't expect a polished experience yet.
